Kenneth Branagh wins Academy Award for ‘Belfast’
Kenneth Branagh’s Oscar for Best Original Screenplay rounds off a successful awards season for the movie Belfast. Considered one of the standout movies of the year, the film was nominated for seven Academy Awards, winning one.
Receiving its world premiere at the 48th Telluride Film Festival in September 2021 the film went on to win the People's Choice Award at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival.
The film then received its Irish Premiere as part of the Belfast Film Festival at the city’s Waterfront Hall on 4th November, with the film’s stars in attendance.
As awards season gathered pace the film garnered many plaudits, including being named one of the best films of 2021 by the National Board of Review and a Golden Globe for Best Screenplay for Branagh.
The movie was subsequently named Outstanding British Film Award at the 75th BAFTA Awards.
At the Critics’ Choice Awards the film won three awards, including Best Young Performer for its breakout star Jude Hill.
